Infrared security database

Welcome to use the infrared-security database in IRay database

With the application and promotion of infrared imaging technology, more and more infrared technologies are used in the field of intelligent security and transportation. In the field of security, monitoring the surrounding environment through infrared lens is an important means to realize 24-hour comprehensive monitoring. Due to the characteristics of low contrast and less details, infrared images lack more information than ordinary visible light images, which increases the difficulty of target detection on infrared images. More accurate detection and identification of human and vehicles in infrared images is a key technical problem to be solved at present.


In view of this problem, we created a infrared security target identification database, the database through using infrared imaging camera on the intersection, obtain a lot of monitoring overhead angle of real infrared image data in security scene in different time. The camera layout height is 5 meters above the ground which is the same as real security instrument in the scene. At different perspective heights, we used different devices to collect three infrared images with different resolutions (384 * 288,640 * 512,704 * 576), and then marked three classes of targets in the images, inculding human, vehicle and non-motor vehicle. The database is mainly used for the research of target detection and identification technology in the field of real-world infrared security, allowing the infrared target identification technology can be further developed, so as to promote the application and development of infrared technology in various industries and fields.


We hope our study can establish an infrared target detection database in real security scenarios to verify the practical application effect of infrared security algorithms in real scenarios. The database records contains 2,000 images of pedestrian, vehicle and non-motor vehicle targets at intersections or roads in 9 scenarios across differnet time periods. The database uses “vehicle”, “person” and “NonMotorVehicle” as labels, and records the location of targets in the images in form of rectangular box, like [x1, y1, x2, y2]. x1 indicates the upper left transverse coordinate of the rectangular box, y1 represents the upper left vertical coordinate of the rectangular box, x2, and y2 represents the lower right vertical coordinate of the rectangular box. All of these label information is saved in an xml file.
