In recent years, with the rapid development of infrared detection technology, the characteristics of non-contact and passive detection make it a research hotspot in the field of military reconnaissance and civil detection, which has attracted extensive attention from all over the world. Infrared detection technology has been widely used in early warning system, air defense system and coastal defense system in military field. In the coastal defense system,Ship target detection at sea can not only detect ship targets to prevent collision, but also provide technical support for maritime search and rescue, and so on, so it has been widely concerned by everyone. Compared with visible light, infrared has the characteristics of strong interference ability, 24-hour continuous work, no need to supplement light at night, etc.It can better detect other target objects and conceal itself. Generally, because of the long imaging distance of marine ship targets, the targets occupy small pixels in the whole image, and because the infrared images have few texture features and low contrast with the background, they are easily submerged in complex sea clutter, which makes it more difficult to detect small infrared ship targets. In the port scene, because of the close shooting distance, the number of docked ship targets is large, and each target occupies more pixels in the whole image. These different scenes and target sizes bring certain difficulties to the detection of ship targets at sea. At present, the accuracy and real-time of infrared ship target detection methods can not fully meet the needs of coastal defense scenes,Therefore, infrared ship target detection technology is still the focus and difficulty of current research.

To solve this problem, we created a new infrared ship target detection database, which collected more than 8,000 pictures of infrared data in different scenes by using infrared devices with different resolutions and focal lengths. The image resolutions are 384*288, 640*512 and 1280*1024, respectively. Seven kinds of ship targets in the image, such as liner, bulk carrier, warship, sailboat, canoe, containershhip and fishing boat, are marked. This database is mainly used for the research of target detection and recognition technology in the real-world infrared coastal defense field, which enables the further development of infrared target recognition technology, thus promoting the application and development of infrared technology in various industries.

The purpose of our research is to establish an infrared ship target detection database in real coastal defense scene, and verify the practical application effect of infrared target detection algorithm in real scene. The database records contain 8,000 pictures of cruise ships, bulk carriers, warships, sailboats, kayaks, container ships and fishing boats in different scenes, different time periods and different resolutions at sea, ports and seaside. Those were tagged liner、bulk carrier、warship、sailboat、canoe、container ship、fishing boat, and those targets were tagged with rectangular boxes.Taking the upper left corner of the picture as the origin of the coordinates [0,0], use the form of [x1,y1,x2,y2] to record the position of the rectangular box. x1 represents the abscissa of the upper left corner of the rectangular frame, y1 represents the ordinate of the upper left corner of the rectangular frame, x2 represents the abscissa of the lower right corner of the rectangular frame, and y2 represents the ordinate of the lower right corner of the rectangular frame. All tag information is saved in the form of xml file.
